The short answer: partially
You can add audiobook titles to Shellf, mark them as currently reading or finished, rate them, add per-trait rating tags, and shelve them like any other book. They count toward your library, your reading stats, and the recommendation engine.
What’s missing is audiobook-specific tracking: there’s no format flag (so Shellf doesn’t know whether a book is audio, ebook, or print), no hours-and-minutes progress tracking (the database stores progress as a page count or percentage today), no narration metadata, and no separate audiobook stats screen.
If you mostly listen, you can still capture the core data — what you read and how you felt about it — by adding the print or ebook edition of a title and rating it normally. Most audiobooks share an ISBN with their print counterpart, so the catalogue match works out of the box.
What’s on the roadmap
- •Format flag per book (audiobook / ebook / print) so the same title can be tracked as different editions in the same library, and so audiobook listens can be filtered out of stats if you want.
- •Hours-and-minutes progress alongside the existing page-based progress, so audiobook listens have native tracking instead of fudging page counts.
- •Audiobook-specific stats (total listening hours, average narration length) for readers who care about that breakdown.
No firm date on these. Audiobooks are a real use case I want to handle properly, but the priority queue currently has iOS launch and content warnings ahead of it.
If audiobook tracking matters today
StoryGraph has stronger audiobook support out of the box — format flags, hours-based progress, and audiobook-specific stats. Bookly also tracks listening time with a session timer, though Bookly’s focus is on habit-building rather than discovery. Either is a stronger pick if audiobook stats are your dominant need today.
If discovery and recommendations are the bigger draw, you can use Shellf for that and keep a secondary tracker for listening stats — not ideal, but a workable bridge until the roadmap items land.
