Terms of Service

You need to be at least 13 years old to use Shellf. In some jurisdictions the minimum age for consenting to data processing is higher (16 in parts of the UK/EEA); if you’re under that age you’ll need a parent or legal guardian’s consent. You also need a valid email address.

If you’re using Shellf on behalf of a business or organisation, you confirm you have authority to bind that entity to these Terms.

You’re responsible for keeping your login credentials secure, for all activity under your account, and for notifying us at hello@shellf.app if you suspect your account has been compromised. One account per person — no shared or role-based logins.

Your library — the books you add, your shelf status, ratings, notes, tags, and reading progress — belongs to you. We store it so Shellf works; we don’t sell it, rent it, or use it for advertising.

By using Shellf you grant us a limited, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, store, back up, process, and display your content for the sole purpose of operating the service for you. This licence ends when you delete the content or your account.

You can export your library as CSV at any time from Settings → Export, and you can delete your account at any time via shellf.app/delete-my-account. Deletion is permanent.

Book titles, author names, cover images, descriptions, ISBNs, and similar metadata are sourced from third-party catalogues such as Google Books and Open Library, and remain the property of their respective rights holders. We display this data under the terms those providers offer. We don’t guarantee it’s accurate, complete, or up to date.

Shellf generates personalised book recommendations using your taste profile — a summary of your preferences derived from your ratings, shelf behaviour, and onboarding quiz responses. That summary (not your raw library) is sent to our AI providers (currently OpenAI and Anthropic) to generate suggestions.

Recommendations are algorithmic and imperfect. We don’t guarantee their quality, relevance, or that any specific book exists, is available in your region, or is suitable for you. Treat them as suggestions, not advice.

AI recommendations are subject to a monthly credit allowance depending on your tier (see below). Credits may not be transferred, sold, or carried over between periods unless we explicitly say so.

Shellf Plus is an optional paid subscription (currently $18 per year) that unlocks a higher AI recommendation credit allowance, advanced reader insights, and priority access to new features. Pricing may vary by region and store.

Subscriptions are sold through the platform you purchased on (currently the Google Play Store). Billing, renewal, and refunds are handled by that platform under its own terms. Subscriptions auto-renew unless you cancel through the store before the renewal date.

We may change subscription prices or features. If we raise the price of your existing plan, we’ll give you notice before the next renewal so you can cancel if you don’t want to continue.

You agree not to:

• Use Shellf for anything illegal or to violate anyone’s rights
• Scrape, reverse-engineer, decompile, or otherwise try to extract our source code, models, or private APIs
• Interfere with the service, attempt to access other users’ accounts, or probe our infrastructure for vulnerabilities outside a formal disclosure process
• Upload malicious, infringing, harassing, or unlawful content in notes, tags, display names, or any other user-provided field
• Abuse or circumvent AI recommendation credit limits, rate limits, or other usage restrictions
• Impersonate another person or misrepresent your affiliation with any person or entity

We may suspend or terminate accounts that break these rules, and in serious cases we may report activity to the relevant authorities.

Shellf relies on third parties to operate. Your use of Shellf is also governed by their terms where relevant:

• Supabase — authentication and database hosting (EU data centres)
• OpenAI and Anthropic — AI recommendation generation
• Google Books & Open Library — book metadata
• Google Play Store (and, when iOS launches, Apple App Store) — app distribution and subscription billing

We’re not responsible for the availability, content, or practices of third-party services.

The Shellf name, logo, wordmark, app, website, user interface, code, copy, and original content are owned by Productvamp Ltd and protected by copyright, trademark, and other laws. You may not use the Shellf brand without our written permission, except for normal discussion, review, or reference.

You can stop using Shellf and delete your account at any time. Account deletion is irreversible and we purge your personal data within 30 days (see the Privacy Policy).

We may suspend or terminate your account if you breach these Terms, if we’re required to by law, or if continuing to offer you the service is no longer viable. Where possible we’ll give you reasonable notice and a chance to export your library first.

Shellf is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all implied warranties, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We don’t warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that book metadata or AI recommendations will be accurate.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Productvamp Ltd and its directors, employees, and suppliers will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or exemplary damages arising out of or in connection with your use of Shellf. Our total aggregate liability for any claim is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim or (b) £50.

Nothing in these Terms limits liability that can’t be limited under applicable law (for example, liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or your statutory consumer rights in the UK/EEA).

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Disputes will be handled by the courts of England and Wales, except that if you’re a consumer resident in Scotland, Northern Ireland, or the EEA, you can also bring proceedings in your local courts.

We may update these Terms occasionally. If we make material changes we’ll notify you by email or in the app at least 30 days before they take effect. Continued use of Shellf after the effective date means you accept the updated Terms.
